Is Raspberry Pi 4B still worth purchasing in 2024?


Having spent considerable time with the Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, I can confidently say that it is a significant leap forward in the Raspberry Pi series and an impressive piece of hardware for both hobbyists and professionals. The moment I unboxed the Pi 4, I was struck by its familiar yet enhanced design. While it retains the compact form factor that the Raspberry Pi is known for, the new features and upgrades make it stand out .

One of the first things I noticed was the more powerful 1.5 GHz 64-bit quad-core Broadcom BCM2711 Cortex-A72 processor. This upgrade delivers a noticeable boost in performance compared to its predecessors . Running multiple applications simultaneously feels smoother, and tasks that previously strained the CPU are now handled with ease.

The option to choose from 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, or even 8 GB of LPDDR4 RAM is a game-changer . I opted for the 4 GB model, which provides ample memory for more demanding projects. This increase in RAM opens up possibilities for running larger programs and multitasking without significant slowdowns.

Another standout feature is the dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. Setting up wireless peripherals was seamless, and the improved Wi-Fi speeds enhance the overall user experience . The inclusion of true Gigabit Ethernet, no longer hampered by shared USB bandwidth, means that network transfers are significantly faster than on previous models .
